Why do I need this?

The aim of the qualification is to enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations. Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the first aider. 

Who is it for?

The qualification is designed for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide First Aid when dealing with an emergency situation. 

What is involved?

This three day First Aid at Work course is delivered in a dynamic, practical way and learner centred way to help you get the most out of your training.

Learners are encouraged to wear clothing that is comfortable and appropriate for the practical nature of the course. You will be performing many of the first aid techniques on other learners on the floor of the classroom.

As we progress through the course you will complete six practical assessments and two multiple choice question (MCQ) papers.

What will I achieve?

Successful completion of the course will see learners achieve the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) with certification that is valid for 3 years.

What will I Learn?

By the end of this course you will be able to demonstrate and show an understanding of:

  • The roles & responsibilities of a first aider.

  • How to assess an incident.

  • How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally.

  • How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally.

  • The safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

  • How to recognise and assist a casualty who is choking.

  • How to manage a casualty with external bleeding.

  • How to manage a casualty who is in shock.

  • How to manage a casualty with a minor injury.

  • How to conduct a secondary survey.

  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints.

  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injury.

  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with a suspected chest injury.

  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds.

  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with an eye injury.

  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning.

  • How to administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis.

  • How to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness.
