This is our first annual statement under the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It sets out the steps taken by Back of Beyond Adventures during the year ended 31 March 2022 to ensure that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place in any of our supply chains and in any part of our business.

Our anti-slavery and human trafficking policies and steps taken

In 2021/22 we assessed potential risk areas in our relationships with the contractors and suppliers we use. We worked to ensure that high risk areas are identified and addressed in any new contractual relationship.

We include contractual representations by suppliers in our standard purchase orders and contracts for the supply of services that their businesses are free from modern slavery. Our service contracts also contain provisions enabling us to terminate contracts should any instances of modern slavery occur.

We have focussed on the supply of labour, on contracts for information technology, and on the suppliers used to purchase equipment from as we consider this area to be at greatest risk of modern slavery. Our efforts in these areas include anti-modern slavery provisions in contracts and working with suppliers with their own policies and practices to counter modern slavery and human trafficking.

Back of Beyond Adventures operates robust recruitment policies, including carrying out eligibility to work checks for all employees to safeguard against human trafficking or individuals being forced to work against their will. We have a Whistleblowing Policy in place which staff can follow to raise any concerns about any practices in the workplace or within our supply chain.

Our future plans

We take our commitment to improving our practices very seriously and review our business on an ongoing basis. Our plans for 2022/23 include:

  • continuing work with our information technology and equipment suppliers to ensuring that their companies and organisations are free from modern slavery and human trafficking; and

  • training relevant staff on the law relating to modern slavery, the areas of greatest risk and how they can raise concerns if they suspect any supplier may be engaging in modern slavery.
